During the one hour journey to the Market ward or alternately the 35 minute walk to the Lower Ward shop The Friendly Fiend the rain stops. The fog starts to lift in the Market Ward but is ubiquitous in the Lower Ward at nearly all times.
Brilligh: Arayna, could I ask you, is it improper to trade here? On the Planes, people barter and exchange goods & services. Would I offend a costermonger if I wanted to trade, or even sell something I have to them? I saw Tarsheva had to present papers to bring things in, do I need something like that?
Aryana: Yes, at certain choke points you do need to have papers notifying the authorities what you are carrying, where it hails from, and how much you plan on dealing within Sigil. Most portals are catalogued by the Fraternity of Order and it's a good source of revenue to charge for their use. If you have large loads coming in I can help you with this as that is my profession here. Of course, there are ways around that. Just ask Lord Estavan.
The Friendly Fiend (Lower Ward)

Located in a two story house
The shopkeeper, A'kin is an arcanoloth with a pleasant personality and friendly manner. Despite his fearsome appearance A'kin is the nicest fiend you've ever met. When you enter the shop A'kin rushes to meet you. He offers cups of hot tea and mugs of of sweet wine. Served by a gorgeous Erinyes who smiles kindly as you take your drink.
Brilligh: [Before entering, takes off her hat & hands it to Peter to wring out. She shakes off her wings, then takes the hat, which, oddly looks as dusty as always. She adjusts it on her head, pulling her hair out of her black eyes. Stepping into the shop, her hooves click on the stone floor.]
A'kin: Welcome, friends, welcome. Please look around, let me know if I can assist you in any way.
Pfepftzet: (accepts a mug of sweet wine) Perhaps you can help me. I am on the hunt for magical sheaf arrows. I am also not averse to handling any fine magical weapons you may currently have in stock. You may find interest in some items of mine. Here I have a well cared for composite long bow, this fine longsword that is now, alas, without a handle, an almost new morningstar (this beauty has nary bashed a head in), and if you can make it worth my while, a magical silver longsword. What say ye?
A'kin: Sheaf arrows? Yea, we have many of them. Are you off to war? hehe. I jest. Seriously, we have what you need. Silver, cold-forged, masterwork, magic of varying strengths. [whispers] We also have some arrows of slaying 2,500 gp each, cheapest price in Sigil. As for other enchanted weapons, please browse the racks behind the counter I will assist you any way I can. What type of weapong are you looking for?
Clymestria: Thank you and may Athena bless you. I've need of a few items, a hand and a half sword, a crossbow, 10 quality bolts, 4 even better bolts, and 3 each of fire and frost, a quarrel, a fine set of armor for a gith, and have you a cape which might have some illusory effects? The color of a peach if a choice is to be had. I've also some magicks id like figured out and would take any recomendations you could give as a kindness. Can you help me?
A'kin: Of course we can help you fair lady. [rings a small bell a robed Tiefling comes from the back room] Landok, we have a customer who'd like a few items identified.
Landok: [rolls eyes] Yes, A'kin. It costs 100gp per item and will take about 10 hours to complete. [takes items and exits]
Clymestria: [Swings around her pack, a slight *ching* as it comes to rest. Clymestria's fingers work to undo her clasps, and pulls from the top of her satchel a cloth wrapped around a slithering mass of resplendant hoops, which she lays ligtly into the arms of the waiting customer service representative, and holds up a finger to indicate a moment more. Again she kneels and pulls a small rod of light wood, a spiral patern carved lightly in it's golden veigned length, and a glass bulb with a dark liquid, which when it swished seemed to crest a glowing orange. These items she also lays onto the waiting mail. And from her purse she pulls a sack and weighs out the fee.] Thank you Landok.
A'kin: [smiling] I may have just the item you're looking for. Stay there.[goes in the back and returns with a long thin darkwood box. Inside the box is a fine bastard sword with a gem on the pommel. The gem looks like there are stars inside.] I just recieved this sword I haven't examined it yet, but it's enchantment is strong. Armor for a gith... zerai I'd assume [looking at Pfepftzet], we have masterwork plate from Traban's forge here in Sigil that'll cost you [5,000 gp]. Enchanted Astral made Splint armor [3,000gp]. This plate armor is made on the Prime. It's main function, to send the wearer to the Etherial, is useless on this side of the multiverse [4,000gp]. Enchanted Field Plate [15,000gp], masterwork Field Plate [8,000gp], enchanted Studded Leather, increases your chance to move silently [2,000gp]. *whew!* If that's not enough for you how about these bracers? [7,000gp AC3, 5,000gp AC5]. You'll find the bolts in this display case, please tell us how many you need.
Clymestria: Those fine bracers will service perfectly and i will take that Beautiful weapon. Please do tell me of it's specific properties also.[Into a different pouch more gilded and heavy laden, which she took from Saru as they parted this morn, she extract the price of the sword, and as her hand raches deep already rather depleted, Flederoth elbows in and offers forth a heafty handfull of merts. She moves her hand to push his back but seeing the look in his eyes, the penance there she takes them.][whispers] Thank you.
Snatch: AS YOU CAN SEE HELPFUL SIR, I AM A SAURIAL! WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN THE WAY OF A WEAPON I MIGHT WIELD EASILY? OR SHOULD YOU NEED TO POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION OF SOMEONE ELSE'S WARES?
A'kin: You say you are a Saurial? In my millenium of existance I have not seen a living Saurial. We do not have anything from your land. I am very sorry about that. How is it that you speak good Sir Saurial? Is it with the assistance of a homunculus? I have studied the makings of these creations and would be most interested in seeing yours. If you'd like please look about I have items that may interest you. Wait here. [goes to the back and returns with a velvet tray with some rings and bracelets] Tell me if these would interest you. One ring protects you the other makes you invisible. The bracers protect you as well, I have two types in stock.
[Ring of Protection +2, Bracers of Defense AC 5, Bracers of Defense AC 3, Ring of Invisiblity]
Snatch: IT IS QUITE ALRIGHT THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING FROM MY HOME, FOR ALAS, NOR DO I HAVE MUCH FROM THERE MYSELF ANYMORE. MY GODDESS HAS DESIGNED A VERY SPECIAL TRIAL THAT I HAVE BEEN NAVIGATING SINCE I FOUND MYSELF COMING HERE ON AN EXPLORATORY JOURNEY FOR MY PEOPLE. THE GREAT SPELL JAMMING WIZARD THAT OPERATED OUR VESSEL MADE THREE OF THESE HOMUNCULI, THE OTHERS ARE GONE SADLY. A'KIN, BE YOU OF GOOD FAITH? [opens mouth widely to show him the homunculis] I HOPE THAT YOUR CURIOSITY HAVE BEEN SATISFIED A'KIN, I AM OFTEN THE FIRST OF MY PEOPLE TO MEET A BODY, I HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD FEELING ABOUT THOSE OTHERS THAT YOU MIGHT MEET WHO SHARE MY STATURE! AHEM. SO, HOW MUCH WOULD YOU LIKE FOR YOUR RING OF PROTECTION?
A'kin: Ahhhh, you like this right? I will sell this ring to you for 2,500 Jinx. A most interesting story, you served on a spelljamming vessel? You don't see those in the planes often.
Snatch: A'KIN, I'M ACHING FOR THAT RING, I'LL GIVE YOU TWO OF THESE FINE GEMS AND THESE TWENTY NINE PLATINUM.
Pfepftzet(overhears A'Kin speaking with Snatch): A ring of invisibility? Tell me, how does it work? May you also tell me if you carry any healing potions?
A'kin: Good eye lady Githzerai. This ring will render you invisible! A most useful item indeed. I will sell it to you for 9,000 gp. Healing potions! Yes, we just get a new shipment from Dr. Darekill. We have 3 varieties the usual: 100 gp; extra: 250 gp; and mondo 500 gp each.
Inside the store is a treasure trove of useful items. A large section of the store is reserved for spell components and spell keys. A display case with wands and a rack with swords and spears line one wall. Another wall has axes, maces and flails. Wicker mannequins display armor next to a rack of swim suits made from the scales of a water drake, said to help ease your way through while swimming.
Brilligh: [sips leisurely at her hot tea, listening to her cohorts yattering at A'kin. She slides her spectacles of read/detect magic up her long jagged nose, careful to not look directly at most of the armor & weaponry and scans the store's wares. Brilligh picks up a few bunches of herbs, sniffing them, sliding her spindly fingers through the leaves & stems, then begins to examine the stones and crystals, holding them up to the light, and turning them slowly to examine inclusions]
Brilligh closes her eyes as she places the spectacles upon her face. ACK! TOO. MUCH. COLOR. The force of seeing so many magick auras nearly sends her to the floor. This Kelidoscope of magick schools is so overwhelming Brilligh is forced to remove the spectacles
[She waits patiently for A'kin to work through most of the rest of the group. When he approaches her, she speaks, her voice like sandpaper] These sparkles are deep runnin, A'kin, ye products are ful rorty. And to tumble into ye doin business with the good Dr. Darekill! It was a few ticks back somewhere between the Aiae Forest & the Grey Waste after finding ourselves out on an edge of the Chessboard, we were near boxed and he saved the skins of Clem, myself, & a.. few others who aren't here with us. I'll never forget those Tentacles of Love. Pass along our regards when ye next spy him, eh?
[she takes a long drink of tea, steam trailing in tendrils from under her wide brim]
Well, I guess I'll start with 2 regular healing potions from the good Doctor. I gots a ring of Spell Storing that I need identifyed, I'd like ye to tell gimme the chant on your selection of spell keys, and are ye stashing any bags of holding?
[As she listening to A'kin, her eyes slide over to Peter in his peasant getup, and she snaps her fingers at him, hissing]
Boy! Quit dawdling, get my list out, and assist good Costermonger A'kin and his fine staff. Shopping list: 1 oz each of the following: powdered lime (the mineral, not the fruit), powdered quickleaf, foxfire or bioluminescent mushrooms/lichen, powdered brass, fleece, ground mica. 50 GP each of the following: powdered silver, powdered quartz, emerald, andesine, yellow sapphire, tanzanite, turquoise, cut diamonds, powdered diamond 10 sticks of plain incense, 2 magnesium candles, 20 lizard tails (small), 5 small onyx stones, 5 mole claw bones (or an equivalent burrowing animal).
A'kin: [to Brilligh as he gather supplies] Well Miss.... That's quite a list. We do carry some spell keys, did you not see them? They are often confused with other spell components. Some 'hende' powerful magicks you have, yes? Come ye to restock before the next battle? Perhaps, it's been some time since you've been in town. Am I mistaken, or do you have the stench of the Abyss upon you? Yet you also wander the Wates? I do not see you faded, mortal... You know many have traveled through the Wastes but few have found the town of Lost-Forgotten. 'Tis well met, I too spent much time there, in Oinos. I Received my education at the Academy of the Spine in the Tower of the Arcanoloth.
Dr. Darekill is a rare sort, most Hordlings are abhorrent creatures, but he seems to have the power to keep them from maurauding the wastes.
A'kin: [with bags of items well packed and ready for travel] You also mentioned Bags of Holding, right? I don't typically deal in those. I thought you'd know about them. [smiling] They're very useful if you never leave the plane from which they are created. If you go though a portal there's a high chance of them spilling their contents. Still, if you insist, I'll sell you one of the few I carry for 2,500 jink.
Brilligh: Ay, it has been some time since we have set foot in a well-laned burg, and yes, I see the keys now, but I think they & the Bags o' Holding should stay put. [She counts out several clear, glittering rubies of various sizes] I've glutted my purse on your goods as it is. It... ah, is true we passed briefly thru the Abyss. And yes, we spent a fair amount of time in the Wastes as well. I've heard of this 'fading' sickness bodies can be afflicted with, but I was not. However, I secure my corpus with magics. A'kin, you have been of great help to me, I hope I can press you for one more bit o' the dark. Do you know of any chant on a God named Manzecorian?
A'Kin: Well lanned you are, girl. Ya probably know better than I. Dark times, dark things. Careful who you wag your tongue to.
Greltech's Arsenal of Magical Goodies
Greltech is of an unknown race but is stout like a dwarf and heavily muscled. He is over 8 feet tall and wears a long leather trench coat with all kind of secret pockets. Greltech is bald and has pointed ears that have tears in them from decades of battle. He wears an old leather patch over one eye and the other holds a false eye with magical powers. His hands are huge and his thick fingers end in a square shaped finger and nail. He grasps an ENORMOUS staff carved of the most ancient wood left in all of Faerun atop the staff is a crystal orb. Greltech also carries a HUGE two handed sword strapped to his back. The base of the blade is wider across than a half-giant's head. Greltech also carries up to 10 magical wands with him that he keeps fully charged.
Greltech: Come forth bloods. Ye look in need of mine items. I carry magic powerful from around the planes and prime. If ye be rich in wealth and skill then thou art ready to parlay with me!

Brilligh [unimpressed with the bombastic barking of the coster, she gives a cursory glance over the wares, then stands idly by, sucking her teeth, watching for pickpockets, and scowling at the curving horizon fading into the fog.]
Snatch: YOU SIR INTEREST ME BECAUSE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT A REAL WEAPON IS! I HAVEN'T SEEN THE SIGHT OF A SWORD QUITE AS LARGE AS THAT IN QUITE SOME TIME. TELL ME, DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER WEAPONS THIS SIZE THAT YOU NEED TO PART WAYS WITH FOR SOME JINK AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF HELPING A BLOOD WHO APPRECIATES A FINE BLADE?
Greltech: Sorry my lizardish friend, tis a unique blade. Not another like it in all the planes. I do not have any other swords in my arsenal at this time.
Clymestria: By Athena you're... right. I see holy beads, what have you friend?
Aryana: Can I perhaps find out the price on those prayer beads?
Greltech: Ye both like the Beads? I foundeth these beads near the Mausleoum of Chronespsis. I know not what they do, I just know they are highly magical. Since I cannot use this, I shall sell this to ye cheap 1,000 Jinx.
Clymestria: For an item who's use is still unknown 1000 is quite a price. but for say 800 i would take them away and send you my blessings [smiles warmly]. [To Arayna] Perhaps we could split them?
Arayna: Nay, you take them my friend. I just wanted to find out the price for some similar items from the Planar Trade Consortium.
Snatch: I HOPE YOU WILL ACCEPT ONE OF THESE FINE GEMS I HAVE, THOUGH I KNOW NOT THAT YOUR PEOPLE VALUE THESE SORTS OF THINGS, BUT I UNDERSTAND ITS VALUE TO BE THE PRICE YOU SEEK FOR YOUR PRAYER BEADS, WHAT SAY YOU?
Greltech takes the gem.
Clymestria: Id also be interested that potion, whats yer askin for it?
Aryana: Kind sir, I hath spent much time traveling in Faerun. Where hath you traveled in those lands?
Greltech: I keep to meself and ask ye to mind yer own business lady. I have been all over the realms and the planes. That is all ye shall hear by me.
Brilligh [at the coster's sharp answer, she glances up at him & smirks.]
Other shops of interest in the market ward.
A halfling run stall with a checkered canopy sells boots. He has a good selection of boots made from various different types of leather. He also sells what he calls 'Chillfoot Boots' these boots make your feet very, very cold. He says you can walk on fire with these boots.
A fat human runs another stall that sells trinkets and toys. Pinwheels, noise makers, whips and strange jewelery called Zadisbands, they hum a soft melodic tune while they are worn. The tune is soothing and beautiful.
Snatch: WHAT BEAUTIFUL JEWELRY YOU HAVE HERE. I WOULD BE INTERESTED TO KNOW THE EFFECTS OF THIS SONG ON THE WEARER OF YOUR SINGING ZADISBANDS.
Human: [eating some sort of meat like a slob, wipes his hands on his shirt] Zadisbands are our most popular item [tries to hide a belch]. Their tune soothes the listener, it's a minor enchantment though. [You see gristle and grease on his hands as he puts one on your wrist]
Brilligh [as she passes through the crowds, she jolts a little at the jostling masses, uncomfortable in such close quarters. She passes by an ironmonger, at which she procures some small broken iron rods, and her usual pile of iron filament & slag chunks. A moment later, she stops at a stall with simple quills & inks, wherein she procures 10 simple quills & 2 bottles of plain black ink.]
A group of Githzerai sit on the ground on some rugs. The have various wares from Limbo on display. An item of particular interest are the Water-torches they sell. Made to work when wet, even when completely submerged in water.
Snatch: THESE TORCHES, HOW DO THEY WORK? IS THIS A NATURAL PROCESS OR AN ENCHANTED ITEM? HOW MUCH FOR A TRAVELING BLOOD?
The Githzerai look at you speak and look at each other and start laughing. Then in broken common they say.
Githzerai1: We sell these to you 2 gp each. Not magic. Limbo.
Githzerai2: [imitating you] NOT ENCHANTED ITEM. NATURAL PROCESS.
Pfepftzet: [in Githzerai] It has been too long since I have seen a water-torch. Your wares remind me that it will be good to return home sometime soon. But until then, this torch will have to be remembrance enough.
A lovely dancer directs your attention to a cart owned by a noble looking Aasimar he sells items from Mt. Celestia. He claims his Celestian rope, made from a rare spider silk, is half the weight of rope but nearly as strong as a chain.
A group of battle hardened Goblins and Kobolds from Archeron sell Clearsteel items. Their wagon has battle standards flying. The each wear fine plate armor that looks nicely cared for. They sit sharpening what look like glass blades. These clearsteel weapons are as clear as glass and as hard as steel. The also have numerous shields made from this material, which is only found in Archeron.
Pfepftzet: [To the Goblins and Kobolds from Archeron] What is this mysterious metal which looks like water?
Goblin1: Eet iz clearsteel meetal from our cube land.
Clymestria: (A smile crosses her face as she thinks "Perfect") Greetings. How much for your mid sized shields. (Miming her arm up holding a shield)
Kobald1: Yes, the weak human need shield. 100 gold for shield.
Clymestria: Well, then, sold my gibbering friend.(As she leans down she shaker hear head making sure her ears expose themselves, thier perfect little peaks poking from her curly locks)
A middle aged female Tiefling with an adolescent daughter have a large stand selling ceramics. They have various plates, pots and other vessels on display. Also on dispay are copper plates, they explain that these are Thought Recorders. You press your head to a plate and it will record an image of what you are thinking of. She states that it takes about 5 minutes for it to work and lasts a week.
Brilligh: [in Tiefling, she scratches] Good day women. You have a ful hende assortment of pottery here. [she will continue in Tiefling, unless the woman speaks in common] That plate is wild, but I know not what I would use it for. I wonder if you could help me? I find myself brewing balms & potions while traveling a lot. Do you have something that could withstand the heat of cooking, but then when cool, has a... locking lid perhaps, so I can keep the mixture in the same pot? Also, I'll take 4 of these small corked jars, and a pack of wax sticks.
Mother: [in Tiefling] Thank ya sister ye are kind. Mah vessels can withstand th' heat of Gehenna. Th' plates 'ave a small enchantment, hedge magic, really. My daughter made th' vessels.
[Notices the spell selection, voice gravelly]... Ohhmmm... what have we here? Is the spellslinger in the family? [she winks at the daughter, thinking of her own mother]
Mother: [steps in front of the daughter] That's enough questions 'bout her. Where we get our magick is not your concern, jus' know it's hende powerful.
Brilligh: Ease off, sister, just makin' nice, right?
Brilligh: [spends several minutes reading through the collection of magics, comparing components, casting requirements and practicality, occasionally digging out one of her own spell books to compare notes. Finally] I'd like to take 4 scrolls off yer hands, Native Item, Sending, Far Reaching III, and Lower Resistance. And do you know if anyone in the Market here would have any invisibility spells? Especially Improved?
Mother: [looking over her spectacles at you] Now why would ya' need ta vanish like that, hmmmmm? A trouble maker ya be, eh? That spell be illegal to sell here. Ya won't find that if ye don't know th' right people.
Brilligh: Oh of course sister, all pardons, see? No harm, no harm. I'm new here, in from the Abyss, and yeah, sometimes it's good to be see thru there. Thank you for the warning, sister. [She hands over a heavy sack of cut rubies. Again, she snaps her fingers at Peter, speaking in common] Wasn't there some gifts I wanted to fetch for our friends? Good day women, it's always nice to see sisters.
